Roofing Single-ply Membrane Roofing Systems Installed

After having buckets out to catch rainwater coming through the ceiling Monday, Sherman is planning to spend more than $130,000 on roof repairs for a pair of city buildings.

The Sherman City Council approved two contracts Monday for repair work to be done on the roofs of City Hall and the Solid Waste Department’s building. The projected costs for the repairs to City Hall, which will be done by Parsons Commercial Roofing of Lorena, Texas, are $75,518. The work on the Solid Waste Department’s building is projected to cost $56,785 and will be completed by Big Bear Roofing & Construction LLC from Waco. Both contracts were awarded through the TIPS Purchasing Cooperative, which makes sure all statutory competitive bidding requirements are met.

“We came into work this morning and there was a leaky roof and water leaking here in this room, so the timing couldn’t be better,” Assistant City Manager Steve Ayers said to the council. “We went out and got estimates, went through the government contract for the interlocal purchasing system. The roof here (City Hall) is about 17-18 years old. So it’s time to have that replaced. (The) Solid Waste (building) is probably 40-plus years old. We’ve had overlay there and it’s time to replace that roof.”

The lists of planned improvements to each of the roofs is fairly similar, as both City Hall and the Solid Waste Department building will be getting a Duro-Last Roofing single-ply membrane roofing systems installed. Each of those systems will come with a 15-year labor and material warranty. Sherman to spend over $130K on roof repairs – News – Herald Democrat – Sherman, TX
